Your Guide to Outdoor Activities in Oskaloosa, IA
As the autumn season knocks at the door, the cooler weather seems to make the outdoors even more inviting.
Sure, a jacket may be necessary. But the outdoors never cease calling for fun and adventure.
As the old Norwegian saying goes: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.”
If you find yourself eager to get outdoors this season, we’ve compiled a list of some favorite outdoor activities around the Oskaloosa area.
Lake Keomah State Park
Lake Keomah offers 366 acres of diverse woodlands, wildlife, and water.
If you’re looking to camp, the park provides both electrical and non-electrical campsites, as well as updated showers and restrooms. Hikers and bikers will enjoy a series of trails along the lake — guiding you through a variety of scenery. Anglers can fish for bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. And, depending on the temperature, swimmers can dip in the water at the beach.
Of course, sometimes the best activity is a peaceful walk around the area, while the fall colors paint the trees and ground.
A trip to Keomah may be most opportune in the autumn season.

Mahaska Community Recreational Trail
With over 12 miles of connected concrete, the Mahaska Community Trail cuts through Oskaloosa and University Park.
Whether you’re seeking some exercise via biking or running, or simply looking to enjoy some fresh air during a family outing, the trail is a great place to find yourself on an afternoon day.
Sights to observe whilst on the trail include scenic woodlands, farmland, community parks, and golf courses. Two trailheads exist along the route, which provide ample parking, restrooms, and water.
There’s simply no excuse to skip this trail.
Fall golf is some of the best golf.
With 45 holes of public golf around town, you shouldn’t have to worry about finding the time to get out. Edmundson Golf Course and Harvest Point Golf Course have combined to form one 27-hole facility, and the Oskaloosa Public Course provides golfers a second distinct track to test their game after a summer full of practice.
As the heat calms down and the conditions soften a bit, make sure to hit the Oskaloosa links at least once.
Your lowest score of the year is still out there!
Edmundson Park offers the type of golf for those with a small ball and sticks, but it also provides a great track for golfers who prefer a disc.
With enough obstacles to keep it interesting — but not enough to frustrate novices — the Edmundson Park disc course is well maintained throughout the season and offers an abundance of unique holes.
Disc golfers of all levels will find this course enjoyable.
These are a few of our favorite outdoor activities in Oskaloosa. However, the opportunities for outdoor adventure are truly as endless as one’s imagination.
The important thing is that you take time to enjoy the crisp air, rich colors, and precious daylight that exist this time of year.
