8 Must-See Events this Summer in Bismarck
Summer is a happening time for the city of Bismarck. The sun is out, the streets are busy, and the people are smiling. With all the hustle and bustle comes a summer filled with exciting events — and there are a few you won’t want to miss.
Whether you’re a Bismarck local, a North Dakota resident, or a tourist looking to plan your trip, this list will help make sure these eight summer events fit inside your busy summer calendar.
Missouri River Festival (May 30-June 9)
The Missouri River Festival provides amusement for people of all ages. Rides are fit for anywhere between young children to thrill-seekers; carnival games beg to be played; tasty street food, drinks, and ice cream pack the festival; and a variety of shows from magicians, comics, and jugglers entertain for days.
The festival begins May 30 at 5 p.m. and ends on June 9. Gate admission is $3/person and includes one free ride.
PBR Bull Riding Challenge (June 14-15)
The world’s best bull riders are getting together at the Bismarck Event Center to compete in the PBR Bull Riding Challenge, with the hope of securing a spot in the Las Vegas World Finals.
This event is big for fans of Professional Bull Riders, but is also an exciting opportunity for newbies to experience the thrilling sport.

McQuade’s Charity Softball Tournament (June 28-30)
America’s largest charity softball tournament is a summer event worthy of participation. More than 400 men’s and women’s teams compete at all levels, with the proceeds benefiting local Bismarck charities.
The tournament begins Friday, June 28, and runs through Sunday, June 30. Special Thursday night activities start at 4:30 p.m.

4th of July Spectacular
Independence Day in Bismarck is not celebrated lightly. The day begins with a traditional parade in Mandan, attended by thousands of spectators.
At night, the 41st Annual 4th of July Spectacular is put on by the Bismarck Mandan Symphony Orchestra, and involves an arrangement of patriotic music followed by an impressive fireworks display. The event is located on the capitol and is available to anyone with blankets or a lawn chair.
The orchestra will begin playing at 9 p.m. Make sure to get there a tad early for optimal viewing.
Downtowners Crazy Days (August 1-2)
The 2nd Annual Crazy Days is being held again this year to support downtown business and community. All day Thursday, August 1, and Friday, August 2, downtown businesses will be providing “crazy” deals and specials to shoppers.
So spend your sun-filled days shopping for unique items downtown, while supporting your local businesses.
- Mamma Mia! (July 23-August 2)
This cherished musical tells the comical story of a woman in search of her birth father, and it’s showing nightly at the Sleepy Hollow Theatre and Arts Park from July 23—August 2. - Capital A’Fair (August 3-4)
One of the area’s largest summer art fairs, Capital A’Fair features over 130 artisans and attracts thousands of tourists each year. Located at the Capitol grounds in Bismarck, this fair will provide live music, fresh food, performing arts, and a variety of children’s activities.Artisans travel from all over the country, fitting a wide range of tastes and cultures.
- Downtowners Street Fair (September 13-14)
The 46th Annual Downtowners Street Fair is right on the cusp of summer and autumn, but we didn’t want you to miss out on this event. Each year at the end of summer, vendors line the streets of Downtown Bismarck and provide attendees with an assortment of arts, crafts, and delicious food.It’s a great gathering to cap off the warm days of summer by supporting the Downtown community.
